[ back to the Clone Emperor ] [ back to SWCII costumes ]

Around 1984, just before the theatrical release of Star Wars; The Empire Strikes Back, my Father took up creating stained glass art. My Father wanted to make something special for me and together we decided that Darth Vader would be a pretty cool subject. Using a Topps movie card photo as reference, my Father created this 24" by 24" stained glass piece for me.

It hung in my window, which faced the junior high school that I attended across the street. My classmates razzed me for having a Darth Vader in my window, evening going so far as to call me Luke. Afraid to provoke my peers at this awkward junction in my life, I took the piece down.

My friend Kevin noticed that Darth Vader was missing. I told Kevin that the other boys at school had made fun of me for displaying the unique portrait. Kevin expressed his disappointment in me. He pointed out that I was fortunate to have a Father who could expressed his love with such a personal gift. I was ashamed for my actions. I hung Darth Vader back in my window that very day.

From that point on the relationship between the characters of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker took on a personal flavour for me. Now I live with my own family, in my own house. Darth Vader still hangs proudly in my window.

Thank you Dad.
