Together with sculptor extraordinaire, Joe Lester, I met with creature effects and life casting guru Doug Goins of Hoosier Effects Lab Limited. After a tour of his workshop, Doug fitted me with a bald cap he had made specifically for our session. With my melon thus prepared, both Doug and Joe went to work encasing my features in alginate. (Unfortunately, as all available hands were needed to help in the life casting, no one was able to take photographs of the process.) Some hours later, a hard copy in my likeness was pulled.

Joe took my bust back to his workshop to clean it up and make additional copies. Joe expressed interest in trying to make a gelatin appliance for me, as opposed to a traditional latex mask. With the Georgia based Dragon*Con convention in mind, I suggested a sophisticated, but not horrific, devil. Not long after Joe was sharing his first sculpts with me by e-mail.
