I.
The sculpted spine, in clay, prepared on a moisture-proofed
board.
II. The negative mold. Constructed with a dense
plaster called UltraCal 30.
III. The cured cast positive in layered, coloured,
latex rubber.
Before
the latex was fully cured for this attempt, I realized that
I would not be content with the piece as the final set of back
spines for my costume. I had been musing over various interpretations
of Prince Xizor, when I came to the conclusion that the
features of this sculpture were too uniform. I will next repeat
the process, this tyme producing more pronounced and exaggerated
spine horns with fewer scales.
