I. After studying the intentions behind the original design of Xizor, I refined the facial features and toned down the cranial ridges of my initial sculpture.
II. I added clay division walls with knob, taking care not to deform the sculpture beneath.
III. Starting with what would become the last mold section, I brushed on a thin layer of Ultra Cal 30—a dense plaster-like material—to capture fine details. The section was then built up to a sturdy thickness.
IV. After each section hardened, I removed the corresponding division wall and coated the exposed Ultra Cal 30 wall with petroleum jelly. This aids in separating the final piece back into sections.
V. The piece is nearly completely encased.

VI. The moment of truth; I use a thin chisel and plastic wedge to separate—without damaging—the finished sections of the mold.
