My friend Eric whose portrait will be appearing in the Puzzle Project 2000a gave me Eden's address. He did this with some ceremony; this person's potential correspondence was his gift to me. At the tyme I did not know Eden from Adam*. But by my friend Eric's handling of the subject I saw that I needed to write and write well to this person.

Eden and I wrote for several years before meeting. Our correspondence was dominated by art and gift. It is a marvel at how close to strangers can become as pen-pals. Eden sent me dried rose petals, chattering teeth, aspirin, and rusty razor blades. I sent band aids, candy, a personalized lettre opener fashioned in her name that I sculpted and cast in bronze, and on one occasion, a chameleon fetus laid by my reptile friend Athena. Poor fellow never lived long enough to hatch.

We had a special relationship that I will be forever thankful for.

*To be fair, I had heard of Adam from Eden.
