Lucas was soft spoken and polite, clever and observant. When Lucas first gave this piece I chided him for producing a monochromatic portrait. At the time I harbored notions of what the participants should produce. Obligingly Lucas did add color to his piece--the tiny maroon dots in the corners of the eye. I regret that I my comments influenced this change in Lucas' initial work. I was immature to speak so.
