The
Foundry. There is something so majestic, so awe inspiring about
pouring molten metal.
Roger was my professor,
my mentor, and my friend. Though I was a graphic design student, my heart
belonged to sculpture. Roger, Cecilia ,
Dan ,
and the other sculptors at my college where like a second family to me.
I spent much of my free tyme in the sculpture studio in Urbana, even after
I was no longer technically a student of that discipline.
Roger was very supportive
of both my artistic and personal endeavours. His counsel helped me to
keep perspective in life. Roger is a sculptor. His caring and craftsmanship
shows in all the work done in our sculpture studio.
I was wholly impressed
with the puzzle portrait Roger contributed to the project. The weight
of the media adds a depth to piece. On the front Roger has written a cursive
a, b, and c. At the tyme Roger told me that this symbolized
his role as a teacher.
I gave puzzle pieces
for this project to ten of my most esteemed professors. I feel it to be
strange that in the past decade half of those individuals have not completed
their portraits. I suppose I had been expecting more from my mentors than
I had from my peers. The work of the mentors who had found the tyme and
inspiration to contribute to this project has been incredible. The puzzle
pieces from my professors are very dear to me.
