Haban-Spanos It is funny how those aspects of my life with the most importance are often the last that I attend to. This piece was made by my sweet companion Alexandra, on the flight that took her to back to Deutschland. We had met for the first tyme just weeks before in New Mexico. She had rearranged her flight to visit me, before returning to her homeland of Hamburg, Germany. I stood motionless watching her airplane depart. When I could no longer see her plane, the tears streamed down my face. In the months to follow, I carved a ring. I then went to Hamburg and asked Alexandra, this lovely spirit, to share this life with me. While we dealt with the bureaucracy of the US Immigration Service, Alex sent this piece in wooden box. The box had been stamped in gold with the pattern on the main faces of her puzzle piece. These carvings represent the first gifts we exchanged with one another. Thy are a symbol for our relationship.
