My 'ittle Sister's
second puzzle piece, a good decade after her first creation .
As it was before, the media used in this piece is as intrinsic to Cynthia's
statement as is the composition, more so perhaps. The hair is donated
by my Sister's cat Sid-knee, our family dog Maxwell, and Cynthia herself.
The scales courtesy of my Sister's two snakes Adena and De-met-tree-ous.
Cynthia has a natural
talent for animals. She aspires to care for animals professionally. Her
desire to help is sincere, her compassion for animal kind is genuine;
Once
Cynthia, Alexandra ,
and I were purchasing some late night refreshments at a convenience store.
This store was vending pet fishes in 6" square plastic cubes stacked
3 deep. A convenience store selling animals as pets. Only in America--every
where else the people have too much sense to suffer such a thing. Cynthia
found that the fish had not been fed and proceeded to break open one of
the fish's starter food packets to feed the group. This did not go unnoticed
and both the store clerk and manager commanded her to desist under threat
of calling the police. Cynthia responded by asking when the fish had last
been fed. The manager reported that they had "a man" who came
in once a week for feeding and care. Cynthia then asked who the man was
and what was the name of his company. When the manger failed to reply,
my Sister returned to feeding the last of the desperately hungry fishes
and we walked out of the store.
Now there may be many
a folk claiming to be "the People's Champion,"--politicians,
salesmen, clergy, "professional" wrestlers and the like. But
just how many brave ladies and gents are out there claiming to be the
"Champion of our Voiceless Furry (or Otherwise) Brothers?" Cynthia
you are a Champion for the Animals to me and I am proud of you for this.
